Friends of the Black Walnut Tree

Many plants can have problems when planted under or near a black walnut tree. These trees secrete a substance that is a natural inhibitor to plant growth. Frank Robinson, executive director of the American Horticultural Society has compiled the following list of plants he has found to grow successfully under the shade of black walnuts.
