Scope

Patio · Kitchen · Fire Pits

The Challenge

One property, two views, two zones.

A new modern farmhouse on a Southern Albemarle hilltop — the kind of property where the view shifts dramatically depending on which corner you stand in. The owners wanted an outdoor kitchen attached to the back of the house for daily living, AND a separate fire pit lounge that captured the long Blue Ridge view from the upper terrace.

Two zones, two purposes, one cohesive design language — porcelain tile, stacked stone, bluestone caps, and dark metal accents that match the architecture.

“The fire pit is for the view. The kitchen is for the family. They needed to belong to the same property without competing with it.”

The Snow Knows Way

The Build

Through winter and into spring.

Snow Knows crews worked the project across seasons — foundations and stonework through the cold months, finish hardscape and outdoor kitchen install as the weather warmed. Same team start to finish, no subcontractor hand-offs.

Materials staged. Stone, concrete, and a long Blue Ridge view.
Cinderblock prep behind the new build — structure before finish.
Stone-veneer planter taking shape, bluestone cap going on.

Zone One — Back Patio

Where the family actually eats.

Porcelain tile patio with bluestone border inset, anchored by a stainless built-in grill on a stacked-stone island. Square stacked-stone fire pit with an L-shape seat wall extends the entertaining space toward the forest view.

Zone Two — Mountain Lounge

For the long Blue Ridge view.

An upper terrace anchored by a curved stacked-stone seat wall wrapping a square stone fire pit. The whole structure was sited and built to frame the panoramic Blue Ridge horizon — every chair points the same direction.
